I have been a vinyl junkie since I was 6 years old. That’s 40 years. I don’t think anyone who considers themselves a musical anorak would purchase music from TESCO. Whether it be a record shop in the high street or a download store online, the importance to people like me is not to have musical partiality dictated by availability. Today I purchase music from shops in the high street, jumble sales, car boots, and places online. I rely heavily upon radio stations such as radio 6 to keep me in touch with what’s is current and not necessarily commercially viable. The high street record shop is still there….I recently walked into a few great shops whilst in Edinburgh. There’s none in my hometown now and haven’t been for a while but that is representative of people who want to be in them and purchase from them. People wanting a record shop is just more niche. That’s ok to me.
