With the band’s original line-up still going strong after 24 years, the Levellers show themselves to be as musically rich and politically aware as ever on their tenth studio album – “already being heralded as their most accomplished album to date”. With producer Sean Lakeman once more at the helm, Static On The Airwaves was recorded ‘as live’ in Prague and mixed in New York by the legendary Victor Van Vugt (PJ Harvey, Beth Orton, Nick Cave).
Reflecting the times in which we live, the songs embrace a range of topics from the decline of the British high street (Our Forgotten Towns) and the world of virtual reality (Second Life) to the theme of war with We Are All Gunmen (“a manifesto for a just society”); Raft Of Medusa – (“a metaphor for modern Europe……the true story of the running aground of French Naval frigate, the Méduse”); and the album closer, a “contemporary reworking of the cautionary traditional Black Watch anthem, Twa Recruitin’ Sergeants, featuring guests Divokej Bill.”
