Here at Proper we don’t just deal with traditional music from all around the world, we also do some of the latest and greatest Alternative, Electronic, Rock and Pop releases.
Volume 4 of our Line Up Sampler is upon us with new tunes from:
Bearcraft, Megafaun, Family Fodder, Inspector Tapehead and many more.
Winter nights are drawing in, so, of course, there’s wood in the yard to be chopped and coal in the shed to be fetched in, but before we do any of that, let’s take half an hour in front of the computer to savour another splendid line up of quality contemporary cool from Proper Distribution. And there’s not many places cooler than Iceland at this time of year, so, let’s start right there with For A Minor Reflection, Sigur Ros’s favourite musical countrymen and long-time touring partners, whose ‘blissful post-rock’ (The Fly) from new album, Holdum i att ad oreidu, kicks off this winter’s selection. Lovely. Also sparkling among the stars in the night sky this time are Dave Ball and his new band, Celine & Nite Wreckage. Not the Dave Ball you thought we did, with the black hat and boots, but the other one, Marc Almond’s mate. Plus, funnily enough, a new track from Soft Cell’s key inspiration, New York’s very own electronic pioneer and ghostrider of cool, Alan Vega.
Also from further afield, we can offer you the throat-singing rock monolith Mongolians, Hanggai “Asian crossover music at its best” (**** The Guardian); The Good The Bad, Denmark’s “speechless, incestuous spawn of Link Wray and Josh Homme”(Drowned In Sound); and, from closer to home, with songs as good as their name, Dunfermline’s own Scottish enlightenment: “classic indie school… and about as far from histrionic X-Factor caterwauling as you could want.”(Song, By Toad) A perfect recipe for beating the winter blues, in fact.
The latest volume of the Line Up sampler is due real soon and we think it’s going to be the best one yet (though we probably would say that).
