The London Jazz Festival, produced by Serious in association with BBC Radio 3, has announced its first shows for this year’s festival (Friday 11th – Sunday 20th November 2011) with tickets now on sale. Taking place in over 50 venues across the capital, The London Jazz Festival is renowned for showcasing international world-class artists alongside emerging stars in what has become the UK’s largest celebration of jazz. This year’s highlights include the 50th anniversary of iconic jazz label Impulse! Records featuring McCoy Tyner plus special guests Jose James and Chris Potter playing music from John Coltrane’s record with Johnny Hartman; jazz drummer Roy Haynes; Indian percussion master Zakir Hussain and a solo concert from South African pianist Abdullah Ibrahim. There are also new projects on the bill from European jazz masters Richard Galliano and Michal Portal, Grammy Award-winning guitarist/composer Bill Frisell and his 858 Quartet, plus a rare chance to hear American experimental composers Steve Coleman and Henry Threadgill and a concert by multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Stephan Micus.
