The quadruple Albert Hall sell-out band Show of Hands set off on a 28-date tour of the UK in October in support of their first major studio album in three years. Produced by Mark Tucker, Wake The Union (released 15th October) will be their 19th album on their own Hands On label.
Award-winning songwriter Steve Knightley and multi-instrumentalist Phil Beer will be joined by regular guest vocalist and bassist Miranda Sykes, plus North American duo Leonard Podolak and Matt Gordon, in what promises to be “a journey through the heart of two landscapes united by a common tongue and musical heritage”, celebrating both English and North American music.
Podolak is best known for his work with the Juno/Grammy award-winning Canadian band The Duhks and as a 5-string claw hammer banjo player, while fiddler, clog dancer and harmonica man Matt Gordon will be joining him for “a set of old-time traditional fiddle and banjo music, punctuated by outbreaks of clog dancing and hamboning (traditional African American body percussion)!”
The grand tour kicks off in Doncaster on 10th October 2012 and takes in Buxton, London, Portsmouth, Exeter, Salford, Guildford, Gateshead, Salisbury, Cardiff and many more, concluding at The Great British Folk Festival in Skegness. See below.
