Hi folks.
Do you have a quiff?
Fond of twangy guitars?
Wish it was the 50s again?
Do you only like bass instruments when someone’s standing on them?
Then the chances are, you’re a Rockabilly fan.

- The coolest cats in Japan contemplate the universal appeal of R&R, shortly before a ‘rumble’.
If so, today’s your lucky day, as we have an influx of promo R&R and Rockabilly material building up on the straining shelves here at Proper HQ.
We have 15 free, randomly selected CDs from our Rock’n'Roll selection to give away to the first 5 people to leave a comment below telling us why Rockabilly is so ace, hot dammit.
Good luck!
THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED!!

Yep, Amy’s great. I had a burger with her at the 12 bar this Summer. Not quite Sun studios, but she did learn all about brown sauce. Next time you’re in memphis, see if it’s caught on!
Anyhoo, congratulations to Andre, Daryl, Danny, Alex and Jeff, who’ve all bagged a bunch of free albums.
Everyone else, keep your eyes peeled for another great comp next week!
Me again. Somehow I posted twice. sorry. I see you have Amy Lavere listed under artists to the right. She was our guide at Sun Studios. Sheworks there when she isn’t playing the Albert Hall with Seasick Steve. Needless to say, I came out of Sun Studios with both her albums!
Even more off topic, I just got Diana Jones’ new cd after seeing her in Buckingham. Fantastic!
Hi,
Just back from Sun Studios in Memphis. I’m luck enough to get payed to go there once in a while and I always visit Sun Studios. I never tire of standing in that little room, where Elvis, Scotty & Bill ripped into “That’s Alright” and changed the world. They eventually called it Rock ‘n’ Roll, but that song was Rockabilly as far as I’m concerened.
Have a listen to this: http://8tracks.com/wayfarer/it-came-from-memphis
Rockabilly is ace cos it’s real music that makes you want to move. It doesn’t take itself too seriously and is very accessible. Rockabilly also uses all the best instruments! I listen to Rockabilly Radio all the time so some CDs would be great too!
I’ll be honest – I’m not very familiar with rockabilly. But I’m always delighted to hear different stuff, which is why I read this blog! I have had a listen to bits and bobs on YouTube by Rusty and the Dragstrip Trio and Grapestormers, and a couple of others. So I would be delighted if, next time I see a rockabilly competition asking how I got into the genre, to be able to say “I saw a competition on the Proper Music blog and won five CDs from it!”
Hi folks,
I forgot to mention this is a UK only offer, Alex!
But I’ll keep to my word… email your address to properganda@properdistribution.co.uk and I’ll ship out your CDs ASAP.
UK entrys only from now on, though!
Jeff, it’s Kim’s lucky day! Email your delivery details and I’ll get you rockin’.
Hey, my name is Alex. I got into rockabilly, in a fairly strange way. I’m really into punk, and started hanging out with the local punk scene (which isn’t much here in Orlando). Then one day, after one of my friend’s bands got done with their set, I stayed after to hear the next bands come on. The next band was a band called The Koffin Kats and wow! were these guys were actually pretty cool! (kind of a psycho/rockabilly thing) There aren’t too many genre’s of music that I like outside of punk, but for some reason these guys new what it was all about.
Rockabilly is really one of the finer genre’s of music because regardless of what people are into, they can enjoy, or at the very least respect it and it’s major influence on all modern rock.
I can’t say that I’m a die-hard rockabilly fan now, but every now and then, I’ll switch off The Exploited and throw some old rockabilly tunes on. Hopefully I’ll be one of the first 5 to respond, that way I can expand my Rockabilly library.
I have a friend Kim who loves rockabilly and is a regular attender at the May and October Rockabilly Hemsby weekenders here in Norfolk. She cannot attend this year’s May weekender due to work commitments so a collection of Rockabilly CDs would help to dull the pain.
