It’s the one you’ve been waiting for folks! Following on from the huge success of 2008′s release That’s Proper Folk which sold over 60,000 copies, we’re delighted to announce that the long-awaited follow-up – This Is Proper Folk Too! – is due out on the 18th June 2012 and features a fantastic selection of new and unreleased tracks by the best of Proper-distributed folk artists.
The 10-track sampler includes exclusive previews of forthcoming albums by Bellowhead, Karine Polwart and Kathryn Roberts/Sean Lakeman plus unreleased songs from Jon Boden & Sam Sweeney, Show Of Hands and Heidi Talbot.
If that wasn’t enough, the compilation also features classic tracks from recent releases by Seth Lakeman, June Tabor & Oysterband, The Imagined Village and Fay Hield all for the bargain price of £1.99.
As Proper Music MD Steve Kersley explains in the liner notes:
“Back in early 2008, we were faced with an embarrassment of riches – a tidal wave of new albums from some of the best folk artists of these islands. Names like Eliza Carthy, Cara Dillon & Karine Polwart and bands such as Lau & Bellowhead. To promote these riches and more, we hit upon the not exactly original idea of a sampler album. Through the co-operation of these artists and their labels we managed to agree the bargain retail price of £1.99… We thought we might sell 5,000. A year on, 60,000 sales later we called a halt to manufacture having exceeded every possible expectation… The pressure was on to do a follow-up so in typical fashion, four years later, we’ve got round to it! Actually we were waiting until we had a line-up that could compete and now we believe it’s been well worth the wait…”

Just read the article and agree with every word. I’ve recently bought “This Is Proper Folk Too!!”. I showed it to a friend of mine, who ordered a copy on my Amazon account, along with “That’s Proper Folk”, which is still available from them, which I am now re-visiting and will be with my friend tonight! I had forgotten how infectious the original album was, especially “Galway Girl”. Both albums are excellent from start to finish; I look forward to Volume Three.
