(Sorry, i’ve got a competition to run which i’m going to spend ages putting together a nice post for, for the benefit of your eyes because they’re so pretty! So this is copied and pasted from a press release, courtesy of Glass Ceiling PR.)
Tony Engle of Topic Records was presented with the MOJO ‘Roots’ Award at the magazine’s 2009 Honours List ceremony in London last night [Thu 11th June - Ed].
Amongst fellow guests who included Yoko Ono, Sir Peter Blake, Paul Weller and Mott the Hoople, the ‘Roots’ music award was received by Martin Carthy, Shirley Collins and M.D. of the label for 40 years, Tony Engle. They accepted it on behalf of all Topic artists, as well as the unsung heroes of traditional music.
Topic Records celebrate 70 years of independence in 2009 with a Special MOJO interview at Cambridge Folk Festival on 31st July 2009, followed by a series of concerts at London’s Southbank Centre in September. These dates will coincide with the release of 3 Score & Ten – a 7CD box set complete with book, charting 7 decades of this remarkable label.
